When you answer these questions, you will have your ‘You Power.’ Seems pretty easy, right!? WRONG!
Many words are able to describe you - but you need to dig to the core - look at the qualities you have had or embraced since youth. Are you the ‘goth,’ ‘sports nut,’ or ‘FILL IN THE BLANK FOR YOURSELF’ of your family? Find that ‘you’ thing and use it to your advantage (if it isn’t hurtful).
I have always been a wild, adventurous, relationship building soul. If you have read my book, Uncollapsible Cakes, you may recall how learning to ride my bike was my door to spurts of freedom. I made my rounds visiting my elderly friends in the neighborhood. I was fascinated with them, their stories, the kindness they showed me, and especially, the treats they happily fed me. Have I mentioned my love for cupcakes? And unicorns?
When I began Call to Adventure Press, LLC, I didn’t list myself as ‘owner,’ though the title is accurate. I am the Advocate of Adventure! This large part of my spirit is a concept through which almost all of what I do and provide others is filtered through.
Here is an exercise to help you find your ‘You Power:’
1. Make a list of words which you believe describe you - your hobbies, how you see yourself, etc. (Nerd, Gamer, Foodie...)
2. Make a list of words in which others would describe you or how they might reference you. (Talkative, Procrastinator, etc.)
3. Make a list of words you would like others to associate with you and your brand. (Loyal, Proactive, etc.)
Once your lists are complete (or complete enough for now), arrange one word from each column to creat your personal brand ‘draft’ identity. From the expamples above, you could get ‘Talkative Loyal Gamer’ or ‘ Proactive Procrastinator.’ (That last one made me laugh out loud!)
You get the idea. Step one is to dig deep and play with the words you want to represent you. Have fun! If you can’t laugh at yourself, you won’t make it far as an entrepreneur.
